This introductory course introduces weaving as a creative practice in its own right, starting with the traditional flat-weaving technique, revisited with a hybrid approach combining plant fibers and textile materials. Through this familiar foundation, participants are invited to experiment with new combinations of materials, textures, and techniques.
Rooted in the unique landscape of the Venetian Lagoon, this training incorporates the use of siega (lagoon rushes), local and ancestral materials traditionally used for basketry and lightweight construction. The act of weaving thus becomes a way to engage in dialogue with the land, combining artisanal heritage and contemporary creation.
At the end of the course, the trainee will be able to:
Explore weaving from a resolutely contemporary angle by experimenting with plant-textile hybridization to create original and unique materials.
Guided by basket weaver Marie Drouet, participants will be introduced to revisited traditional skills, in an approach that combines artisanal heritage and contemporary creation.
At the heart of this training: learning hybrid weaving techniques, which transform this practice into a true creative force. Weaving becomes a tool for sensitive exploration, allowing us to question form and surface, while opening up perspectives for new projects, at the intersection of craftsmanship, textile art, and material innovation.
Over the days, participants will acquire the essential skills needed to create a variety of samples, gradually mastering the interactions between materials, structures, and textures.

Marie Drouet is a basket weaver who delicately combines the traditional art of plant weaving with a resolutely contemporary aesthetic. From her studio in the Val d'Oise region, she collaborates with professionals in the luxury, decoration, and design industries, who are captivated by the originality and sensitivity of her creations.
Her work is based on the mastery of ancient, often rare, artisanal techniques, which she uses to create unique pieces. She favors natural materials such as wicker, grown in France, in a deeply environmentally friendly approach.
Marie's works take the form of lighting, decor, and custom pieces, where wicker interacts with other materials—leather, rope, fabric, and metal—that she carefully selects and enjoys upcycling. This exploration of materials gives rise to organic creations, straddling the line between art and design.
Curious and open-minded, she doesn't hesitate to combine expertise by collaborating with other artisans or through her own research.
During this training, she will particularly highlight flat weaving, which she explores as a decorative wall language in its own right.
A former interior designer, Marie didn't intend to pursue the world of basketry. After a period of doubt and self-reflection, she transformed her passion into a career. Today, she embodies a new generation of artisans, guided by a vision that is both sensitive and entrepreneurial.
