The Program

Learning objectives

matali crasset proposes the creation of a device with an original and distinctive design, which merges a campfire with an ashiyu (Japanese public footbath). This collective project aims to design a friendly outdoor space, dedicated to well-being and sharing. During the training, learners will mobilize theoretical and practical resources, in order to think about the project and build it in a specific context.

At the end of the training, the trainee will have assimilated:

The ability to build a collective project
The ability to imagine creative solutions taking into account a context
The ability to bring together different functionalities in the same device
The ability to create in "emergency"
Basic knowledge of metalwork (depending on the group chosen)
Basic knowledge of carpentry (depending on the group chosen)

Content of the program

The project proposes to merge a campfire with an "ashiyu", which is a public footbath in Japan. This concept, often found in parks, consists of soaking one's feet in hot spring water while remaining clothed, thus offering a practical means of relaxation.

The idea is to create a collective platform where one could share an aperitif or a hot drink, while having one's feet in the hot water. A heating point, fueled by wood or beer dregs (previously dried), would allow the water to be heated on site. A common basin would welcome the feet of the participants, with informal seats allowing them to meet in groups. This experience combines the pleasure of being together around a fire while offering a moment of relaxation.

The challenge is to imagine a user-friendly device and a strong design. The workshop will begin with a collective reflection in order to define a usage scenario and finalize the typology of the object. Then, the participants will be divided into two groups: one in charge of the metal parts, and the other will take care of the wooden structure, which will constitute the platform and the seats. The result will be an original and collective design, intended for an outdoor wellness area.
