The Program

Learning objectives

This training program offers a complete immersion in the traditional techniques of plasterwork, which are increasingly rare today. Participants discover the richness of this craft, identify specific materials, become familiar with professional tools, and learn the essential skills of the ornamental plasterer.

In the workshop, they practice concrete projects: simple molding, shaping a molding, cutting angles, and joining elements. The approach is resolutely practical, ensuring a precise understanding of the steps and requirements of the craft.

Beyond the technical aspects, the training encourages reflection on the role of plasterwork in contemporary decorative arts, between heritage restoration and current creation. It also emphasizes the importance of preserving and passing on these artisanal skills, essential for the conservation of cultural heritage.

By developing their precision, observational skills, and creativity, trainees engage in a professional and socially responsible process: contributing to the continuity of a craft and actively participating in its evolution.

Upon completion of the training, the trainee will be able to:

  • Identify the specific characteristics of the ornamental plasterer's trade
  • Distinguish between the different plasterwork techniques
  • Prepare the materials (plaster, reinforcements)
  • Create a simple plaster molding
  • Trace a molding using a template
  • Make an angle cut (miter cut)
  • Cleanly join two molding elements (finishing and adjustments)
  • Apply safety and organizational rules in the workshop

Content of the program

Plasterwork techniques, once central to the enhancement of architectural heritage, demand great precision and a solid knowledge of materials. Today, they are only taught in a few specialized institutions, making their preservation particularly urgent.
This training program allows participants to discover the fundamentals of these traditional crafts, understand their technical principles, and practice creating decorative plasterwork elements. The learning process, both practical and progressive, highlights the cultural significance of these skills, their role in heritage restoration, and their relevance to contemporary projects.

Plasterwork requires a sure hand, rigorous mastery of materials, and precise work organization: all skills that this training program aims to develop in a clear and structured manner.

Details

Yoann Landès

In the demanding world of fine crafts, some career paths powerfully illustrate the convergence of technical mastery and a commitment to passing on knowledge. Yoann Landès's is one of them. A skilled craftsman specializing in plasterwork and ornamentation for seventeen years, he has built his career at the intersection of creating, manufacturing, and restoring decorative works. Currently workshop manager at Atelier Louis Del Bocca, he oversees production with a rigorous approach that leaves no room for error: project planning, team management, meticulous quality control, and the creation of complex, custom-made pieces. Every project, whether contemporary or historical, is approached with the same dedication to excellence.
His experience has been built gradually. As workshop manager at L’Espace du Staff, he developed his skills in team management and overseeing high-end projects, ensuring impeccable finishes in both new construction and renovation projects. Earlier, at Staff Design, he climbed the ranks, first as an apprentice and then as a seasoned ornamental plasterer, solidifying his mastery of traditional techniques and the constraints of the construction site.

But beyond production, Yoann Landès distinguishes himself through his commitment to knowledge transfer. As a jury member for the Brevet des Métiers d’Art (BMA) exams, he actively participates in the evaluation of future professionals, championing a demanding and contemporary vision of the craft.
His profile fully embodies the values of expertise, rigor, and the sharing of know-how. Through his career, he demonstrates that the plasterwork and ornamentation trades are not merely about tradition: they are a field of innovation, where precision of hand and collective intelligence shape the decorations of tomorrow.
