The Program

Learning objectives

This immersive three-day training course offers a comprehensive introduction to the basics of wax carving, an essential jewelry technique for creating models for lost-wax casting.
The program includes demonstrations, practical exercises, and personalized support. Participants will learn how to model a piece in wax, use precision tools, and explore various finishing techniques.

Please note: This training focuses solely on the creation of wax models. Metal transformation (lost-wax casting) is not included in the program.
Trainees wishing to have their piece cast must use a professional foundry outside of the training program.

At the end of the training, the trainee will be able to:

  • Understand the key steps of wax sculpting to create volumes suitable for jewelry and the lost wax technique
  • Handle specific sculpting tools with precision to shape forms and details
  • Experiment with different finishes to add character and texture to the models created

Content of the program

This jewelry design training is, above all, an in-depth introduction to wax sculpture. Participants explore the unique characteristics of this material, learn to master traditional sculpting tools, and develop the ability to create precise and harmonious volumes.
Through practical exercises and personalized support, trainees explore different methods for shaping, texturing, and finalizing their wax models. The emphasis is on developing technical and artistic expertise, combining rigor and creativity.

This workshop focuses exclusively on the creation of wax pieces. The transition from model to metal casting is not included and must be completed at a later date by a professional foundry. Participants will leave with unique creations, ready to be transformed into jewelry.

Details

Karl Mazlo

Karl Mazlo forges his own path in the world of jewelry, far from the conventions of classic luxury. A graduate of the École Boulle, he forged his vision through sensitive experiences, particularly in Japan, where the philosophy of Wabi-Sabi transformed his view of matter, time, and imperfection.
In his studio at the Villa du Lavoir in Paris, he breathes new life into forgotten materials: pieces of ceramic, architectural debris, and raw metals. Each piece of jewelry he creates is a unique piece, born from a dialogue between memory, material, and craftsmanship.
Between diverted tradition and discreet innovation, his artisanal practice flirts with contemporary art. His work, full of intention, bears the mark of gesture and a strong desire to pass on knowledge. Winner of the Prize for Intelligence of the Hand, Karl Mazlo advocates for local, ethical jewelry deeply rooted in reality.
