With this training, Jacques Ferrier proposes to reinvent the door by using materials and construction methods adapted to the imperatives of energy frugality as well as the technical challenges of passage and space separation, while exploring new decorative approaches. This work will lead to the creation of a full-scale prototype.
At the end of the training, the participants will be able to:
The front door is the most iconic of all architectural elements: a communication gateway between the outside and the inside, it is both experienced as a boundary and as a passage. It presents an opportunity for constructive demonstration, addressing technical challenges of crossing, opening in a wall, and separating interior and exterior environments. In this regard, it is now fully aligned with the imperative of frugality in energy and resource usage.
The front door is also a highly symbolic space. It's a distinct area, a threshold between the intimate and the public, an image of welcome and representation offered to all, which over the ages has reflected societal aspirations through its ornamentation and opening mechanisms.
Today, the front door is often reduced to a functional product. The goal of the workshop will be to reinvent the door within the context of current inquiries, mobilizing appropriate materials and constructive details, and approaching the question of decoration with fresh eyes.
The collaborative work will culminate in the construction of a full-scale prototype.
