The Program

Learning objectives

Stained glass is an art of gesture and light, a subtle language made of transparency, material, and color. Inheriting a centuries-old tradition, it continues to inspire architects, artisans, and artists who wish to bring to life sensitive projects, bridging heritage and contemporary creation. During this five-day immersive workshop, master glass artist Bryce Bianconi will share the technical and aesthetic foundations of his craft, combining rigorous craftsmanship with freedom of interpretation. Trained by master glass artists in Chartres and Nancy, he has been practicing for over 20 years, with an approach that is both faithful to tradition and open to experimentation.

Throughout the workshop, emphasis will be placed on precision of technique, understanding light, and mastering the materials. For Bryce Bianconi, "stained glass is not merely decoration: it interacts with space, volume, and the atmosphere of a place. It reveals what light can express."

Upon completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Analyze traditional stained glass techniques: cutting, fusing, painting on glass, and lead-came assembly
  • Understand the steps involved in restoring an old stained glass window
  • Explore the creative potential of contemporary stained glass
  • Create their own original piece
  • Develop a critical eye for the relationship between light, color, material, and space

Content of the program

From its ancient origins to its medieval heyday, stained glass has long adorned religious buildings with luminous narratives, blending spirituality, color, and architecture. But this art of glass, far from being frozen in the past, has continued to evolve.
Reinterpreted in the 20th century by artists such as Chagall, Soulages, and Léger, it moved beyond churches to explore new territories: public buildings, contemporary interiors, and works of art.

Today, stained glass is experiencing a true renaissance. Freed from its figurative constraints, it explores transparency, textures, and contrasts of light. Whether abstract, geometric, or minimalist, it finds its place in design, architecture, and scenography, in close dialogue with the surrounding space.

However, training opportunities in this craft remain scarce. Outside of a few specialized institutions, opportunities to learn stained glass techniques, particularly with a contemporary approach, are limited. This reality makes direct instruction from practicing glass artists, in immersive and practical formats, all the more valuable.

At the crossroads of tradition and innovation, stained glass today reaffirms its vitality: a living craft, serving visual experimentation and the power of light to evoke emotion.

Master Glass Artist and Founder of Bianconi Stained Glass Studio

A passionate master glass artist and founder of Bianconi Stained Glass Studio, Bryce Bianconi continues an exceptional craft tradition, where time-honored techniques and contemporary design come together. For over 20 years, he has worked in Paris and the Île-de-France region to preserve the beauty of stained glass heritage, while also reinventing this art form through modern, custom-designed pieces.

With his team, Bryce dedicates a significant portion of his work to the maintenance and restoration of antique stained glass, whether in religious buildings, historic structures, or private residences. Each piece, delicate and steeped in history, receives meticulous attention, respecting traditional techniques: painting on glass, leadwork repair, and double glazing. Interventions are tailored to each project, carried out either on-site using the direct painting technique or in the studio, ensuring complete and lasting restoration.

But the Bianconi Stained Glass Studio is not limited to conservation: it reinterprets stained glass as a living art form, creating contemporary works that play with opacity, transparency, textures, and colors. Bryce particularly favors geometric designs and subtle harmonies of refined colors, conceived in close collaboration with architects and interior designers. For him, stained glass is primarily a dialogue between light and space, enhancing architectural volumes and transforming interior atmospheres.

True to the values of authenticity, elegance, and precision, Bryce and his team remain responsive and enthusiastic, ready to take on the most demanding projects with recognized professionalism, whether for private clients or businesses.
